St. John’s Day

The night of Saint John, also known as the night of fire or the night of witches, is celebrated throughout the Catalan Countries. St. John is a pagan festival with a religious name in which the birth of the apostle of Jesus is commemorated, and in which the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere also occur. Gastronomically speaking, it is a tradition to eat coca de sant Joan, coca de llardons, and cava. We will finish with a proverb: «Who lights a fire for Saint John, does not get burnt in a year”.
